Early Morning Structure Fire on Brunel Road

(Lake of Bays) On February 25, 2026, at approximately 12:10 a.m., the Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire on Brunel Road in Lake of Bays.

The occupant was alerted by working smoke alarms inside the home, which activated and provided early warning. The alarms woke the homeowner, who exited the residence and called 911. There were no injuries reported.

Firefighters from Station 4 (Baysville), Station 2 (Port Cunnington) and Station 3 (Hillside) responded with nine fire vehicles and 25 firefighters, including tanker support from Station 1 (Huntsville). The Ontario Provincial Police, Muskoka EMS, and Hydro One were also on scene.

Crews worked for approximately six hours to extinguish the fire and complete overhaul operations.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation and damage estimates are still being determined.

This incident serves as an important reminder that working smoke alarms save lives. Smoke alarms are required on every level of a home and outside sleeping areas. Test them monthly and replace batteries as needed. When a smoke alarm sounds, get out immediately and call 911 from outside.
